Notes: | John Hawthorn was sworn in as a citizen of the United States on March 17, 1829. NORTH CAROLINA SUPERIOR COURT ASHE COUNTY MARCH TERM 1829 John Hawthorn, a resident in said state and county maketh oath that it is his bona fide intention to become a citizen of the United States and that he does forever renounce all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state or sovereign, whatever, and particularly to George the Fourth, King of Great Britain and England and John Hawthorn further makes oath that he was born in the County of Ayr in Scotland and bore allegiance to the King of Great Britain and England. That he is about the age of thirty one years and migrated from Scotland to the city of Philadelphia and landed at the last named place in the month of September in the year 1827 and there immediately to the state of North Carolina and that it is his intention to become a citizen of Ashe County of the said state.
