Notes:
Jesse may have been in King George Co., VA. The Keesee Family is one of the oldest families in America. They were of the French Hugenot line, and were founders of the Protestant Religion in America. They fled Europe for religious freedom in the 16th and 17th centry. They went first to Barbadoes in the 1600's, later coming to America. George Keesee was in Richmond, VA 1750 as he sold land there in the year 1750. He migrated to the part of Virginia which became Pittsylvania Co. He died May 18, 1789 in Pittsylvania Co. In his will he names his children: Mary, George, Charles, Jerimyah, John, Jesse, Ann. (W & B Book 9, page 497, Pittsylvania Co., VA). His will was settled Jan 20, 1796. His son Jesse was executor.

Jesse became a wealthy tobacco farmer and amassed land, slaves and children. On August 10, 1781, Commissioners of Pittsylvania Co. assessed Jesse Keesee 4 pounds for provisions for the Revolutionary War.

Jesse Keesee and his brothers frequently bought, sold and traded land among themselves. In 1778 Jesse bought 100 acres from George for 30 pounds. In 1781, Jesse and Millie jointly with George and Aggie, sold to John Keesee 500 acres for 30,000 pounds of tobacco (W & D Book 4, page 522 and W & D Book 6, page 527). Jesse also made dowery grants to his daughters: 100 acres to Lewis Dalton and Polly Deesee Dalton; 100 acres to Thomas Green and Amy Keesee Greene; 100 acres to Solomon Pickeral and Sally Keesee Pickeral (W & D Book 8,). The dowery gifts were made in 1807 and 1817.

Some ofe the information on the Keesee family comes from the book KEESEE FAMILY OF PITTSYLVANIA CO., VA, by Vincent H. Keesee PHD.

The 1782 census shows the Jesse Keezee family consisting of 2 adults, 5 children, 1 dwelling and 2 other buildings.

1820 Pittsylvania Co., VA census, shows 1 m over 45; 2 f over 45; 1 m 18/26; 1 f 16/26; 7 male slaves and 4 female slaves.

At Jesse Keesee's death his estate consisted of 1624 acres which sold for $1170.00. Booker keesee bought 542 acres for $206.80 (W & D Book 31, page 259). Other buyers were Emily Anthony, James Irby, George Camp, Jeremiah Anderson, Lewis Dalton, John Parker.

Mildred Mustain Keesee survived her husband by about 10 years. In his will Jesse left her the house, 30 acres and 2 slaves, with the provision that the property be sold at her death and the income divided among the children. The 1830 census shows her as being between 50 and 60 years old, and living with a female 15/20. She had 2 slaves, a male named Peter, aged 24/36, and a female named Mariah, aged 10/24. Her granddaughter, Mildred Bobbit, sold this property in 1847 to grandsons, David Dalton, Booker Dalton, Jesse Dalton, Keets Dalton, Dr. Thomas McNealy and George Doss (W &D Book 50, page 502, 1847), $100 for 30 acres "The same being the land devised by the last will and testament of Jesse Keesee deceased to his wife Mildred Keesee after her death to be sold and bounded by land of the late Booker Keesee, Samuel Dalton, etc.
